House Judiciary Committee passes Children’s Safety Act 22-4…
Activists Rally To Support The Child Safety ActThe U.S. House Judiciary Committee passed Chairman Sensenbrenner’s (R-WI) Children’s Safety Act 22-4. (http://www.cwla.org) The bill is HR 3132, and Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) has sponsored companion bill, S1086. For bill text search use http://thomas.loc.gov. The legislation incorporates several provisions addressing penalties and registry requirements for convicted sex offenders. The legislation would enhance national, state, and local sex offender registration and notification programs, while requiring states to have uniform, public-access sex offender registration websites. Jessica’s Law introduced in Pennsylvania…
Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering bringing "Jessica's Law," named for the 9-year-old Florida girl who was molested and murdered, to Pennsylvania. http://postgazette.com The legislation, which is also being considered by New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, would increase penalties for convicted sex offenders and require live tracking when they are released from prison. (also see vol3_iss30) A Pennsylvania woman was recently sentenced to only 2-5 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old and posting pictures of the assault on the internet. http://www.thewgalchannel.com

Florida became the first state to utilize cell phones for Amber Alerts. http://ap.washingtontimes.com Cellular amber alerts have been available since May. vol3_iss33 To receive Amber Alerts by cell phone visit https://www.wirelessamberalerts.org Amber Alerts have been credited with saving 213 lives since their inception 8 years ago. 3 out of 4 children abducted by strangers are dead within 3 hours of being abducted.

Another female teacher has been charged with statutory rape for having sex with male students. http://www.foxnews.com The teacher works for a New York Catholic school.

The Washington Post has an interesting piece entitled “The Clergy’s Uneven Atonement” which looks at the differences in the Catholic Church’s outreach to sex abuse victims by diocese. http://www.washingtonpost.com

The stepfather of a girl whose decapitated body was long known only as ''Precious Doe'' has been indicted by a grand jury for first-degree murder. http://www.newsday.com

A defendant whose crimes prompted Wisconsin’s efforts to add juvenile sex offenders to state registration lists was sentenced to 25 years in prison for pretending to be a teen mentor to fondle two boys. http://www.washingtonpost.com
