Nonprofits seek access to FBI database…
In 2003, the Federal PROTECT Act authorized an 18-month pilot project which allowed local nonprofit organizations which are members of the National Council of Youth Sports, the Boys and Girls Clubs and MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership, serving children, the elderly and disabled, to access the FBI's fingerprint-based national criminal database to screen potential employees and volunteers. http://www.southbendtribune.com Proponents will next push Congress to make the system permanent and available to all nonprofits for both volunteers and employees. In the system, a nonprofit takes volunteers’ fingerprints, either at a police station or on its own, and sends them off to the FBI, which runs them through the agency's national criminal conviction database. The FBI sends any records generated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which determines whether the applicants should be allowed to volunteer. Any felony convictions and misdemeanors involving violent force, illegal drug use, sex elements and cruelty to animals trigger a "red light," meaning the applicant should be denied. The center gives a "yellow light" to an applicant whose records show charges involving any of those crimes but no convictions. Of the 8,500 checks done so far in the pilot project, 255, or 3 percent, have received red lights, while 425 more, or 5 percent, drew yellow lights, said Meaghan Kelleher, supervisor of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's background checks unit.

Jacko won’t sleep with boys anymore…
Basking in the jurors' decision to acquit his client of all counts, Michael Jackson's lawyer said Tuesday the singer will no longer share his bed with young boys. http://www.zap2it.com ''He's not going to do that anymore,'' attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. told NBC's ''Today.'' Meanwhile, at least three jurors who just last week voted to acquit Jackson, vol3_iss38 believe that he has molested boys. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com "He's just not guilty of the crimes he's been charged with," said juror Ray Hultman. "He probably has molested boys at some point." Two other jurors and one alternate who appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" raised their hands when asked if they thought Jackson may have molested other children but not the accuser in this trial.
