Spokane Mayor Jim West has been accused by two different men of sexually molesting them when they were boys. http://www.spokesmanreview.com In addition, an investigation by The Spokesman-Review also reports that West has used the trappings of the mayor's office to entice and influence young men he met on a gay Web site. http://www.spokesmanreview.com On one recent occasion, West offered gifts, favors and a City Hall internship to a man he believed to be an 18-year-old whom he met online at Gay.com, Internet dialogues retained by the newspaper reveal. The 18-year-old was actually a forensic computer expert working for the newspaper. The Baltimore private school where a convicted murderer had taught until being charged with sexually abusing three students was part of a city task force working to improve employment opportunities for ex-offenders. http://www.baltimoresun.com Maryland law requires private schools to run criminal background checks on potential employees, but does not prohibit them from hiring felons. The school did not report the abuse to police as required by state law. Maryland is one of four states that do not have any penalties for failure to report abuse.
The Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled that child protection workers can be sued for wrongful death. http://www.minnlawyer.com Specifically, the court held that “ A cause of action exists for wrongful death based on the alleged negligence of the county and two county child protection workers in the investigation of child abuse and neglect reports as required by the Child Abuse Reporting Act, Minn. Stat. § 626.556.” The case is titled Radke v. County of Freeborn.

Two Illinois second-grade girls were found stabbed to death in an Illinois park after going on a Mother’s Day bicycle ride. http://www.foxnews.com No weapons were found and there was no evidence of sexual assault.
